Repair issues can cascade into even greater complications for vulnerable homeowners.

A local elderly homeowner here in Western Washington County, Oregon had a leak in her roof and her kitchen ceiling was caving in as a result. Roofing, insulation and drywall repair all needed to be done in stages, and roof tarping needed to be redone again and again as repairs happened to keep the interior dry.

As repairs started, the homeowner's water heater was failing and her washing machine broke.

This homeowner is disabled and still working; between her low income, her limited physical abilities and her job, she did not have the time, the skills nor the resources to deal with these cascading issues, affecting the value of her home, her health and all aspects of her life.

Through funding from West Tuality Habitat for Humanity, as well as various partnerships, our staff and various contractors, over many weeks, were able to provide this homeowner with a a new roof and gutters, undertake insulation and drywall replacement, and provide a heat-pump water heater and a new washer and dryer.

This home is transformed - as is the homeowner's quality of life - because of our critical repair program. And your donations help make this kind of help possible. Habitat for Humanity programs are focused on everyone having a safe, affordable place to call home, and our critical home repair program is a part of that focus.

The Habitat for Humanity critical home repair program is designed to address critical issues to make the home safer and more secure for the homeowner, and to enable at-risk homeowners to stay in their homes longer. Repair projects range from yard work, debris removal, exterior and interior painting, building access ramps and installing grab bars to major critical repairs, like roof or floor replacement. The number and kind of home repairs we can do is dependent upon funding from financial donors and grants. Habitat serves as the general contractor and may complete repair projects using Habitat staff and volunteers, or may hire subcontractors, depending on the nature of the work.

Help us help even more people in our area, and consider making a one time, quarterly or monthly donation.
